2. our paralegal webpages are found at either http://lamission.edu/law,
or http://profj.com, or http://profj.us.
3. You can access the class schedule and class work by going to
the correct semester for your class. Then click on either online
or on campus classes, find your class, and click ont he class
webpage.
click here for the online/internet and on campus classes
for Summer 2003.
4. The online classes do not meet at any particular time.
You will do the work on your own and at your own convenience and
submit quizzes by email. The class is basically divided into lecture
notes, discussions, quizzes, and assignments, and all of these
are located on the class homepage. Please stay with the schedule,
DO NOT race ahead to complete the course. Your postings on the
bulletin board are like class discussions, and you need to do
them within a few days before or after the date, but both the
quizzes and the class discussion questions become late, and points
are deducted from the discussions, and the quizzes are removed
from the schedule, and then you are not allowed to submit answers
to the quizzes. Also No make up exams are given if you miss the
deadline to post your quiz answers. You must use your "real
name", and your "real email address" when you post
your answers to the quizzes, and then you should check your email
in box and you will receive your score and the correct answers.
5. Once you enroll in an online class, please email Prof. J. at
abogado@pacbell.net,
and your online instructor to advise them of your email, and that
you have added the class. The email for each instructor is located
at the faculty
websites.
6. If you do not have an email, you
can get one at yahoo.com or hotmail.com. Please email your
online instructor and Prof. J. with your email as soon as you
obtain one, or you finish reading this information. You may not
receive a grade until you have emailed your email address with
your name.
7. We will cover the textbook in the order outlined in the schedule
for the class. The textbook for Law 1, Law 2, and Law 19 is the
same. West Business Law, 8th edition (red cover), you can try
using the 7th Edition (blue cover), and it probably will work
for you.. You can see the 8th Edition of the book we
use and order it online - it currently costs $113.36.order it
onlne . Some classes do not have textbooks, like Law 17 -Legal
Writing, and Law 13 - Wills and Trusts, so
check out the textbooks for your class.
8. Each chapter has a discussion, and you will be required to
post your own "legal discussion and analysis of that question".
We use hypernews threaded discussions". To post your discussions,
click on the question, DO NOT fill in any usename or password
information, then fill in your email addresss, your name, a title
for your posting, and then the posting, click on preview, and
then post. It is suggested you word process your answer first
in Microsoft Word, or wordpad (you get to wordpad by clicking
on tart/programs/accessories/wordpad). Hypernews is not a word
processor, and any formatting of your posting is lost once you
post it to Hypernews. We are concentrating on the content of the
information in our classes. Please
read our policy against Plagiarism.
Students are encouraged to look at other students' postings, but
do not copy them "verbatim" (this is called "plagiarism")
- use your own creative imagination. If you do plagiarize other
students' postings, appropriate action will be taken against you.
9. Each class has a syllabus, and you can read it for information
about the class.
10. Grades will be posted regulary (each week) under "grades"
on the main webpage for your class. They will be posted by your
last 4 social security numbers (unless you advise Prof. J. of
other numbers you want to use instead of your last 4 social security
numbers). Read "About
Your Grades".
11. If you are having problems with the course work, materials,
or anything, please contact Prof. J. at 818/546-7060 (his pager/voicemail),
or at 818/415-2015 (his cell phone) to discuss. you may email
Prof. J, and give him a time and date you wish to meet in a Virtual
Office Hour, and then click on this
link to "chat" with Prof. J.
12. You can always contact Prof. J. through email at abogado@pacbell.net,
or the other email addresses listed above.
13 The first graded exercise is to introduce yourself to class.(just
as an example See
the introductions made in our Business Law 1 Class in Fall 2001.
YOU MUST HAVE AN EMAIL TO BE AN ONLINE PARALEGAL STUDENT, AND
YOU MUST POST YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS AT THE START OF EACH CLASS, AND
ADVISE YOUR ONLINE INSTRUCTOR AND PROF. J. WHEN YOU CHANGE THAT
EMAIL ADDRESS. THIS IS A REQUIREMENT TO ATTEND THE ONLINE PARALEGAL
CERTIFICATE PROGRAM.
14. These law classes may be your first classes in law. Law is
fun, but also difficult to study at times. If you need assistance
in learning how to study, then check out the study skills, especially
how to study the law. (remember: add 50% to the time you initially
think you need to study for this class. You should study at least
6 - 9 hours a week for this class - 1-2 hours reading the chapter
materials, 1 hour to post your discussions, 2 hours studying for
the quiz, and 1-2 hours for each written assignment)
15. It is important to learn the distinction between a case
and a code.
Also you will become more familiar how
courts work, and their role in the legal system. We will also
start to learn how to do legal
research and legal
writing in class.
16. Welcome to your online class. and let Prof. Jordan know if you need any help or assistance in this class.
17. One of the best search engines, even for finding law is Google.com, so try it. You may also find Findlaw very helpful in finding law, and answering your legal questions.
18. Information about Paralegal
jobs is located at Jobs.
19. Also remember that we have an excellent Index
of Legal Documents, and a
Site Index A-Z which you should become familiar with.
20. Students who do not carry at least a "D" grade may
be excluded from the class for "failure to perform satisfactorily"
in the class. It is the responsibility of the student to drop
the class, and not the responsibility of the online instructor
to "exclude" the student for "unsatisfactory performance"
(i.e. a D or F in the class).
21. Again, good luck, and hope you have fun, and learn a lot.
22. Here is some more
information about our Paralegal
Program, and also information
about Prof. Jordan, and his Curriculum
Vitae and your
other excellent online law faculty.
